Applying for Financial Aid and Financial Aid Checklist

This page contains links to various resources that you may find useful while applying for financial aid. The applications are offered as Adobe Acrobat PDF files. Viewing PDF files requires the Acrobat Reader plug-in or application. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat, please click here to get the free and latest version.

To be considered for the Federal subsidized and unsubsidized Stafford Loan, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and list:

Antioch's Title IV School Code: E00995

Mail or electronically submit the FAFSA form to the Federal Student Aid Programs. The internet address is www.fafsa.ed.gov to file electronically.

In addition to the FAFSA, the following forms are required to be submitted to the Financial Aid Office:

    1. An Antioch University Ph.D. Financial Aid Application.
    2. An On-line Entrance Counseling Interview is required for all students. This is a set of questions and instructions that outline your responsibilities as a Stafford Loan Borrower. This process is completed online.
    3. Financial Aid transcripts from every college or university attended within the previous academic month even if financial aid was not received.
            Transcript Application (PDF File)
    4. A signed copy of your (and your spouse's, if married) most recent tax form and all W-2's.

After the FAFSA is mailed, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) in the mail approximately 4-6 weeks later. If Antioch University was listed in Step 6, your information will be electronically sent to the Financial Aid Office. Once we have all the required paperwork listed in the above steps, we will send you an Award Letter. This Award Letter will show your total eligibility at the time of processing. If you asked for a lesser loan amount than what is showing, we will mail you a revised Award Letter at a later date. Loan Process

Antioch University participates in the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) for graduate students. Student loans can be used to supplement these grants which can be used for tuition and fees, books and supplies, living and transportation expenses. First-time borrowers at Antioch University will be required to complete a loan request form to select a lender.

Please download The Antioch University Federal Stafford Loan Request Form.

In order to provide better service, Antioch University uses Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) services through participating lenders which allows you to receive your loan funds faster. If you do not choose a participating lender through Great Lakes Higher Education Corporation, your loan funds may arrive in the form of a check, and can delay disbursement of funds by 2-3 weeks.

Once all loans have been certified electronically, your lender and/or guarantor will mail you a promissory note to sign and return. Any changes can be made on the promissory note before returning it to your lender and/or guarantor.

The number of loan disbursements will depend upon the number of terms for which you are enrolled.

    Processing Applications

Loans are processed once your financial aid file is complete and your financial need is determined. A complete financial aid file consists of:

    1. Student Aid Report (SAR) sent to you upon federal processing of your FAFSA.
    2. Student loan application.
    3. If the SAR indicates verification is required, a Federal Verification Worksheet (available from the Financial Aid Office) along with a complete, signed copy of your prior year's federal tax return.
    4. Any other supporting documentation requested by our office.

    Registration Approval

Your registration and continuous enrollment will be held if your financial aid file is incomplete. Tuition and fee charges are deferred in anticipation of processed financial aid.

    Deadlines

The Ph.D. Program Office has a printed list of deadlines that students must meet for aid processing. This list is mailed to new students and is available in our office for continuing students.

If you missed the deadline, you may still apply for assistance. However, we cannot assure that your loans will be processed in time to defer your student account charges. If you have missed the deadline, be prepared to pay your balance by the tuition payment deadline. You may then be reimbursed by financial aid proceeds once they have been processed. Failure to make satisfactory financial arrangements may result in holding your registration, which may result in late fees and may prevent you from continuing your studies in an uninterrupted fashion.

Tips on Completing Financial Aid Applications

    1. Start now! Don't wait until the last minute to complete financial aid materials.
    2. Assemble the needed paperwork.

    * The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) (Note: Antioch University's Title IV School Code is E00995)
    * Most recent U.S. Income Tax Return (Form 1040 or 1040A/EZ) and all W2's
    * Records of Social Security, Veteran's Benefits, and other untaxed income
    * A federal Stafford Loan Request Form

    3. Read and follow all directions. Work carefully through the application materials.
    4. Financial aid will be delayed or forfeited unless applications are completed correctly.
    5. Once you receive notification from the Financial Aid Office that your award has been processed, contact your lender with any questions you may have about your loan.
    6. Students must reapply for financial aid each year and must continue to demonstrate satisfactory academic progress as determined by the program.
    7. Students are not guaranteed the same financial aid award each year.
    8. Keep a folder of all financial aid paperwork for future reference.
