We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

    Celebrate Constitution Day - September 17, 2008

September 17th commemorates the day in 1787 when thirty-nine  delegates to the Philadelphia Convention signed the U.S. Constitution.  All members of our PhD community are invited to have appreciation for, to reflect upon, and to have dialog about the significance and impact this historical document has on our lives.  Please check out the following websites for information about the Constitution.

The National Archives  http://www.free.ed.gov/subjects.cfm?subject_id=19&toplvl=173  has developed and posted some excellent resources to commemorate Constitution Day.  Other websites, such as that of The Constitution Society  http://www.constitution.org/  and the National Endowment for the Humanities  http://edsitement.neh.gov/ConstitutionDay/constitution_index2.html also provide excellent information.

Annenberg Media, an educational resource website, offers a video instructional series entitled  "The Constitution - The Delicate Balance", which is available as a free on-demand streaming video through   http://www.learner.org/
