Ph.D. in Leadership and Change Student Chosen as Community Catalyst

    Tokunbo Awoshakin,
Ph.D. in Leadership and Change student (Cohort 7), was recently chosen to participate in the Southwestern Ohio Council for Higher Education's (SOCHE) Creative Region Initiative as a Community Catalyst. He is one of 32 Catalysts that were selected to lead the Initiative (based on the work of urban studies theorist Dr. Richard Florida), a regional collaboration aimed to foster an environment that retains a skilled workforce, attracts new talent from around the globe, and empowers the region of Southwest Ohio, giving emerging leaders the tools to generate economic prosperity, build community vibrancy, and improve quality of life in the region.

Additionally, Tokunbo recently published Lost and Found in America: A Reflective Story of New African Immigrants in The United States (Xlibris, 2007). The book tells the story of an African immigrant who was involved in socio-political as well as personal circumstances after September 11, 2001 that changed his awareness about the United States.  The book provides insight on the ways in which new African immigrants see life in an unfamiliar culture and a different country particularly in regards to the intersection of their experiences to culture, race and identity.

Tokunbo is the Founder/Executive Director of Civic Life International, an organization dedicated to using dialogue, deliberation and media strategies to uncover emerging issues facing people and communities and strengthening the competencies of citizens, institutions and governments to respond to these challenges.
