Dr. Laurien Alexandre is Director of Antioch University’s Ph.D. in Leadership and Change and serves  as professor and member of the core faculty.   Dr. Alexandre first came to Antioch in 1991 as the Dean of Academic Affairs for Antioch’s two Southern California campuses.  In that capacity, she participated in a number of university-wide innovation initiatives, one of which seeded the initial concept for this Ph.D. Program.   In 1999, she took a re-assignment with the university to head the design and implementation of the new Ph.D. Program.

During her 20 years in higher education, Dr. Alexandre has served in leadership roles  at Antioch as well as the Immaculate Heart College Center, an ecumenical institute devoted to research and training on peace and justice concerns, where she directed a  teaching training (K-16) program on international and multicultural classrooms. She also taught for over 10 years at California State University, Northridge, in the Department of Mass Communications/Journalism where her focus was on graduate courses in media analysis.

Dr. Alexandre received her Ph.D. in Comparative Culture from the University of California, Irvine in 1984.  She has long been committed to interdisciplinary inquiry, especially in her teaching and writing on media and international affairs.   She has published books and articles on the media for both academic and popular audiences, and she has also translated several scholarly books and articles for publication.  Most recently, Dr. Alexandre’s research has focused on media coverage of presidential and national politics in the Spanish-language press.

Dr. Alexandre  is a life-long Californian, and currently lives in Los Angeles with her husband and dog.
