Jon Wergin Ph.D. is Professor of Educational Studies in the Ph.D. program.  Dr. Wergin was part of the design team of the program, and joined the faculty on a full-time basis in 2003.  Dr. Wergin’s areas of interest are adult and professional education, innovative program evaluation and assessment, and higher education change.  His latest book is Leadership in Place (2007), and includes chapters co-authored by three students in the Ph.D. Program. His other books include Educating Professionals (1993, with Lynn Curry), which won the Best Scholarly Publication from Division I of the American Educational Research Association; Analyzing Faculty Workload (1994); The Collaborative Department (1994); Departmental Assessment (2000); and Analyzing and Evaluating Educational Research (1996, 2001, and 2005), with Jim McMillan). His book Departments That Work (2003) met with rave reviews, describing it as "eloquent," "learned," and "practical," and has been translated into Arabic.  Dr. Wergin is an emeritus professor at Virginia Commonwealth University, and from 1994 to 2004 was a Senior Scholar with the American Association for Higher Education.  Most recently, he directed a national project funded by The Pew Charitable Trusts, integrating efforts to assess student learning by the eight regional accrediting associations.  Over the years, he has consulted with dozens of national associations, accrediting bodies, and colleges and universities, on issues related to evaluation and change in higher education.
